Just around the corner from Central Station, tourists and students
flock to the Internet Cafe to check emails, trade stocks, and catch up on
hometown news. During one of my photo excursions, while drinking a
Heineken, I read that LA had suffered a minor earthquake. Concerned
because my parents live in Pasadena, I instant messaged one of my AOL
buddies and asked her to call my folks to see if they were ok. Two
minutes later, she responded they were on the phone happy that I
"called" to check in. My buddy continued to say that Dad
had slept through the tremor and Mom was upset to find her only son
overseas. In my concern for them, I gave her something else to worry
about. (Truth be told, she should be more concerned when I'm at home
in Baltimore.) Oh well, at least I saved "a buck or two."
