Mother & Children On Bicycle

Walking in Amsterdam can be hazardous. Streets are filled with quiet taxis, trams, motorcycles, buses and bicycles, hundreds of bicycles.  Risking life and limb, I stopped in the intersection and "panned" my Leica rangefinder at a mother and daughters as they sped by en route to school.  Panning is a photographic technique used to isolate a moving object.  The background blurs showcasing the dynamic relationship of the subject in relation to its environment.

So intent on my goal, I failed to notice the last child raise her hand to muffle a shriek as a hell-bound taxi zoomed past my unprotected backside.  After exposing the frame, I saw her smile through my viewfinder, as she realized the taxi had thankfully missed me.  I vowed, albeit briefly, to pick a less hazardous vocation, like... I don't know, . . . . hang-gliding?
