Unskilled
labor in Tanzania, Africa is almost a mantra. I took this portrait late one
afternoon in Kifaru, a coffee plantation and lodge, near the Ngorongoro Crater. This
gentleman was returning his irrigation equipment after a long day of working the fields.
Through translators, I found that he and others work long hours daily for the
equivalent of $1 US. The cost of a medical appointment is $20 US, and most workers
have to borrow money from their employers to pay for basic medical care for their families
and themselves.
