Impala Herd
(Aepycerous melampus)

Groupings of females and young vary greatly in size.   Herds of 50-100 are quite common, usually with one dominant bachelor male.   Mature males alternate between bachelor and territorial status and rarely hold a territory for more than a few months at a time.  This image, taken in the Serengeti National Park, shows two immature females in an episode of head butting, a common activity among these grazing and browsing bovids.
